In this class, Family and Human Studies 1500: Lifespan Human Development, we talked about the biological, cognitive and psychosocial development throughout the human life. We started at the newborn level and discussed all the way through late adulthood and death. Personally, I feel like I learned so much through this course. My eyes were opened in so many different aspects of life. For example, when we talked about adolescents, I was able to understand the "invincibility fable" a little bit better. I never understood why adolescents were so daring and almost seemed like they had no fear. But, after that unit, I realized that adolescents have a hard time processing that something bad can happen to them. At the point in their life, they think they are invincible. Adolescence is a hard time of life. There are a lot of changes happening and it is hard for the cognitive system to logically think things through most of the time.
The two assignments that are attached below are from the unit of adolescence. That was my favorite unit and some of my best work came from it. I feel like these assignments demonstrate a lot of what I learned through this unit. The first assignment that is listed is an essay. For the essay, we had to answer a specific question that is listed in the assignment and make connections to the textbook to back up any of our answers. It challenged me to make sure that my paper wasn't just full of my own opinion. The second assignment is called an observation. In this assignment, we are required to observe an adolescent and focus on the biological, cognitive and psycho-social development that is taking place. For this particular observation, I observed a young man with a group of his friends at a fast-food restaurant. It was interesting to see the things I had been learning in class first-hand. Please feel free to scroll through the documents below in order take a look at the assignments that have been attached. |
