Hiking
Hiking has always been a huge part of my life. Ever since I was a little girl, my family would go hiking any chance we got! That desire to go hiking has stayed with me for my whole life. I have hiked trails in Zion, Moab, St. George, San Diego and plenty of local hikes in the Salt Lake Valley. I feel like this is my way of relaxing and re-centering myself when I am overwhelmed. School can cause a lot of anxiety and stress, especially before finals. Hiking allows me to take a break from the craziness of school and take time to relax. There is nothing better than the quiet sound of the wind and birds chirping while you sit next to a still lake at the top of a mountain. Hiking, while a fun pass-time, will always be something that helps me improve in school and day-to-day life.
Service
I am a very giving person who is always trying to find ways to help out people around me. I spent 9 months this past year living in Kansas just to serve people and help them feel loved. I have helped organize service projects to benefit the homeless by making sleeping mats out of grocery bags. I have organized groups to get together and help at non-profit organizations. I love helping people know that they are loved and cared for. Through service, I have learned life-long lessons and had personal experiences that I wouldn't be able to learn through a textbook. I have also developed a strong work ethic through my experience with service. I have learned that when I put my mind towards something, I don't stop until it is done and that has benefited me a lot in the classroom.
Hanging Out With Friends
I love being with people. I am a very social person who always wants to be doing something. Thankfully, I have a group of friends who want the same thing! We do anything from haunted houses to Nerf gun wars. Most of my friends have been with me since we were 5 years old so we have a very tight relationship. This relationship has allowed me to develop good communication skills that benefits me with my class work. I am able to more effectively communicate with classmates and my teachers to clear up questions and ensure that I am doing everything in class correctly.
