In this course, we learned how to work in the field of education. We focused on all of the aspects of creating a successful classroom. As teachers, we have to be able to accommodate the needs of all of our students at once. It is important that our students feel like they are in a safe environment and feel like they can be open with their teachers. As part of the course, I was able to spend 20 hours volunteering in a 6th grade classroom, observing how different lesson plans work more effectively than others. I spent most of my time working with the ELL students. These are the students who are learning English as their second language so they need a little extra help and guidance with vocabulary and grammar. I loved working with them and hearing their stories of their experiences in their home countries.
It is important that as teachers start their careers, they develop personal philosophies in different areas. For this class, we developed philosophies for education as a whole, classroom management and assessing and grading student learning. Each of these are attached below. For our term project, we were each given the responsibility to develop a lesson plan for a specific grade level and teach it to an individual or group of individuals, record ourselves and turn the video in along with the lesson plan. You will find the lesson plan attached below as well. Please feel free to scroll through the documents and read through my philosophies and lesson plan. |
