This course focused on the variety of natural disasters that occur on our planet today. We studied everything from simple rock deformations to the complexity of plinian volcanic eruptions. It was interesting to learn that these disasters that occur are not completely random; they can be predicted. The science behind the predictions can take many years to develop but as technology advanced, the predictions are becoming more accurate! I was an awe throughout the whole semester as we learned more about how the earth works as a whole system. We live in an amazing place!
For my term project, I did a research paper on the preparations that can be taken by those who live near the San Andreas fault line in California to lessen the effects of a possible disaster that could strike. The main disaster that is currently threatening California is an earthquake. The San Andreas fault has a history of massive earthquakes that have caused a lot of damage so it is important that those who live near it are prepared. An earthquake is inevitable... The question is: when? Please feel free to scroll through the document below to read about what preparations you can make to ensure your safety. |
